AS-2222 Keeps Power Plant Online
A southeastern coal fired power plant recently experienced an equipment failure that was critical to generation. This type of failure in most other plants would have most likely forced them off-line. The performance of AS-2222 cationic coagulant used in conjunction with an anionic flocculant allowed for the plant to remain operational during this system upset.
The process water at this zero liquid discharge plant is recycled. It is critical to remove all the coal fines and other impurities of this concentrated process water. There are 2 gravity settlers in operation with the total process water being split between the two. The Problem occurred when one settler failed. The result was to force all process water through one vessel which is undersized thus, exceeding all design performance characteristics. Failure to remove the fines would force an unscheduled plant outage. Applied Specialties, Inc. technical representative altered existing solids removal chemical programs, with the use of AS-2222 and an anionic flocculant to provide assistance for plant personal to maintain chemical performance and plant operation. Total suspended solids in the effluent was maintained within design specification.
