AS-3023: The Right Choice
In a Water Treatment Plant on the Niagara River an extended trial of AS-3023 was started to compare against polyaluminum chloride (PACL). Through six weeks of the trial the chemical dosage using the AS-3023 was reduced by 70 percent. Particles counts in the 2 micron range were seen to be 40% lower and overall filter performance was noted to be improved. Filtered turbidities ranged from 0.04 to 0.05 NTU. Residual aluminum readings in the distribution system were at 70 µg/L(ppb) while treating with the AS-3023, compared to PACL readings of 173 µg/L. Caustic soda used by the WTP for pH control was cut by 74%. Chemical sludge was noted to be reduced as well.
