AS-9637 Performance Slurry’s Success Continues

AS-9637 recently replaced commercially available lime slurry at a Louisiana Refinery. The incumbent slurry had been used for a number of years to lime soften Mississippi River water that is used within the refinery. The incumbent product like all conventional lime slurries suffers from scaling and fouling which requires frequent cleaning of piping and associated equipment by plant maintenance.

After using the AS-9637 Performance slurry for 8 weeks, the refinery’s technical and operating teams evaluated the economic and maintenance benefits of the AS-9637 compared to the previous slurry.

During the trial period, the AS-9637 slurry actually cleaned the old deposits from the lime slurry storage and feed system. Additionally, no mechanical cleaning was needed during this period. Historically, the system had to be mechanically and chemically cleaned approximately every 2 weeks. The use of the AS-9637 also resulted in a significant reduction in slurry use. Previous use of the prior supplier’s lime slurry was 3 truckloads per week, this was reduced to 2 truckloads per week or a 33% decrease when using the AS-9637 Performance Slurry.

As a result of the significant cost savings and reduced maintenance issues, the refinery management has elected to make the switch to Applied Specialties’ AS-9637 Performance Slurry permanent.
